Marmite & Cheese Twists

These are becoming somewhat of a signature dish for our house - they usually make an appearance for family get togethers. They’re easy to make and can be enjoyed by everyone, even the smallest guests can chomp away on them so a great recipe to have down for your festive parties this season.

You can leave the cheese out and use a vegan pastry for a plant based version, you can experiment with different cheeses or different versions of marmite… after trying a few different ways, this combination of regular marmite, truffle marmite & cheddar is definitely my favourite!

Marmite & Cheese Pastries

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C and line a baking tray with greaseproof paper.

  2. Unroll the pastry and score a line about halfway down. I worked with my pastry so the long edge was facing me, this way when you cut it in to fingers you will get more, shorter twists as opposed to fewer, longer twists.

  3. Smother the pastry sheet on one half, covering up to your score mark, with as much Marmite as you fancy. Any Marmite works well here, I used a combination of the regular one and some Truffle Marmite, but it would also be delicious Dynamite!

  4. Over the top of the Marmite, sprinkle with as much grated cheese as your heart desires. I used a mix of cheddar and gruyere for these as it’s what I had in the fridge, but you could use something like Parmesan or Red Leicester to mix it up.

  5. Fold the clean side of the pastry on top of the Marmite side, so the cheese is sandwiched in the middle. Cut along the sheet in about thumb-width strips.

  6. Holding the end of each strip, twist them on themselves. I find 3 twists works perfectly. Then arrange them on the baking tray.

  7. Brush them with a little milk and bake for about 15 minutes, until they are golden brown.
