If you’re in the mood for exquisite dishes that are packed with flavour, skill and passion, look no further than Fletcher’s.

Sat in the heart of Plymouth, just off Royal Parade, you’ll find this family-owned gem. Entering through the gentle twinkle of a fairy light archway, it’s the prettiest foreshadowing for the magical evening ahead of you.

The Food at Fletcher’s, Plymouth

Once you’ve been warmly greeted and shown to your seat, there’s a great wine list to peruse. As always, I would suggest looking ahead at the menu to pair your wine accordingly.

The locally baked, award-winning Jacka Bakery bread is served warm with homemade whipped butter. I think about this combination, often. To me, it’s good food in its purest form… warm, perfectly baked bread with salty, creamy butter? Yes please.

We’ve tried a few things from the snack and starter menus across our visits, however the glazed crispy chicken bites are a very firm favourite in our house! The chicken is so tender and loaded with sticky, spicy, sweet glaze that warms your mouth.

For mains, depending on your preference, I highly recommend both the Devon Ruby Red Fillet of Beef and the Pan-Fried Cod. The beef is accompanied by an unctuous shallot, green peppercorn and pancetta bordelaise, among other accoutrements. The fish is served with confit artichoke, beautifully salty smoked cod roe taramasalata tartlet and roast artichoke sauce. The crust on the cod with the buttery, flaky texture of the flesh is something to behold.

As a side – clotted cream roasted potatoes. Yes, you read that right. Clotted. Cream. Roast. Potatoes. I’ll leave the rich, creamy, crispy texture to your imagination…

Now, for dessert. I don’t mess around in this department and if, like me, you have a serious sweet tooth, you’re going to need to listen up.

The Miso Caramel tart dessert, stacked high with crunchy walnuts and coffee ice cream, in Fletcher's restaurant, Plymouth

When I tell you that Fletcher’s salted caramel tart is probably the best dessert I’ve ever had – I mean it. It comes with a miso & white chocolate mousse, coffee ice cream, miso tuile and the most incredible walnuts.

Both the tart and mousse are sweet and creamy, but gently tamed by the salty, umami-loaded miso and lightly bitter coffee ice cream.
