We were so excited to be invited down to The Old Warehouse, Kingsbridge. It’s exactly the sort of place we love. Let’s get in to what made it such a great visit…
What I love about The Old Warehouse is that it’s independent, cares about sourcing local ingredients and Canadian head chef Iain Dawson is putting out some seriously sumptuous food.
All this wrapped up in a package of the relaxed, fun atmosphere. Think Nashville bar nestled in the heart of Devon. A rolling playlist of indie guitar music, vinyls all over the walls, ambient lighting. It’s cute for a date night, cool for a pint and chill for a coffee - that’s a triple threat.
The Menu At The Old Warehouse, Kingsbridge
Don’t be mistaken in thinking The Old Warehouse is just a burger-and-beer spot – although it is absolutely the coolest place in Kingsbridge to enjoy that. But it’s so much more...
Iain’s passion for grilling and smoking shines through as much as his care for sourcing local ingredients and showing them the love they deserve. The menu is packed with flavour and personality.
Amazing Food in Kingsbridge, Devon
So… what did we have?
To start with, we tried the Buttermilk Fried Chicken with Spicy Buffalo Sauce. The coating was deliciously light and crisp while the chicken was moist and tender. The sauce was flavourful with a pleasant, but not overpowering, kick of spice that tickles the back of your tongue and a slightly citrusy finish.

Moving on to mains, I had the Moonhoney Mead Glazed ½ Chicken which is served with roasted peppers, greens and a garlic puree. The chicken is moist and encased in a gloriously sweet and smoky flavour. The peppers beautifully blistered, retaining their green sheen and not too bitter. If you’re a garlic lover, the purée will be your idea of heaven. It’s super-strength in flavour but with a delicately smooth texture.
My husband had The Big Smoke Burger and, I quote, “it’s the best burger [he’s] ever had.” It arrived with its insides spilling out on to the plate and, if you’re as invested in carnivorous delights as my husband is, that’s exactly how they should come. Served in a pretzel bun with perfectly golden skinny fries and a tangy aioli, it’s definitely one for the hungry. The pulled pork was so tender with a mouthwatering, slightly sweet, barbecued flavour. Topped with a satisfyingly crunchy slaw.
On the side, a portion of the Triple Cheese Macaroni which is made with Chef’s special cheese sauce and topped with a spiced, smoky crumb. I would indeed write home about this mac and cheese. It was unreal. The luxuriously creamy sauce was seasoned to perfection and gave an almost pornographic cheese pull. Heavenly.
To finish, a Sticky Toffee and Stout Pudding served with honeycomb ice cream. A decadent dessert that left me wanting to lick the plate clean. The pudding itself was fluffy and not too dense, yet rich in flavour. The sweet honeycomb and salty caramel sauce cut through the cream to create a brilliantly balanced dessert.

Of course, we couldn’t talk about The Old Warehouse without mentioning their meadery: Moonhoney. On a mission to make mead cool again, they specialise in producing sparkling craft mead which is brewed on the premises.
I tried a pint of the King Bee, a honey pale ale. It was sweet and mellow and very drinkable!

Don’t Miss The Old Warehouse, Kingsbridge!
Whether you’re passing through while holidaying in Devon or you live locally enough to make the journey; The Old Warehouse is a must-visit. There are regular live music events, if that's your thing. Otherwise, the menu has all the charm of comfort food but with a masterful chef’s flair. It’s fire cooking at it’s finest.
